Anything can happen while visiting Georgia (the country). But could you imagine being that lucky tourist given VIP treatment and dinner with Prime Minister after becoming 6 millionth person to visit Georgia? Well, yes, that’s what I’m talking about – we are a truly insane nation.
It was almost the end of 2016. Georgia had a record number of international travellers in 2016. To be more specific, 6,350,825 international travellers (tourists, transit, other) entered the country that year, which was a marvellous increase year-over-year. Georgian tourism officials arranged a special surprise for the 6,000,000th guest.
Imagine what arriving in a new country on the first day of a big trip can look like. Tired from the flight, you have to wait forever for your baggage to arrive and there aren’t any taxis to the hotel. But that was only opposite for Jesper Black, a young Dutchman, happened to be this lucky tourist. Jesper Black flew there from his native Netherlands having no clue he was about to become the 6 millionth international traveller to visit in 2016.
The unsuspecting visitor was being served with luxurious food, fabulous wine, music, dancing and a very warm welcome as the country, situated between Europe and Asia, celebrated an increase in tourism that year.
The driver had been waiting for Jasper at the airport. Expecting to be delivered to his friend Nino, Jasper was sitting calm. He had no idea about being 6 millionth tourist for Georgia that year and that he would end up dining with the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili.
So the love began. Jasper became an icon of the guest of Georgia and like it usually happens, became a local in a short time, feeling himself at home. He became a true celebrity not only in Georgia but internationally. He bought an old car and used to travel around Georgia. Also took part in the TV show: Dancing Stars. Jasper spent two incredible years in Georgia, loving and sharing everything with us. He is an example of how the guest can feel and be treated in Georgia. We are the hospitality-lovers. We’re grateful for every guest and host them like our old friends. Join us now.
